What is PBIS??
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It focuses on recognizing and rewarding the positive behaviors, as opposed to recognizing and punishing for the negative behaviors. The more you reward the positive behaviors, the more often you will see those positive behaviors! You can find lots of information on their website --> Click Here
This year, I started a couple different Interventions and Supports at my two schools.
Columbine
At Columbine Elementary, we started the Columbine Cougar Club! This is basically our version of the Principal's 200 Club, on which there is a fair amount of research and information.
Our big matrix BINGO board has 144 spaces.

Columbine
At Columbine Elementary, we started the Columbine Cougar Club! This is basically our version of the Principal's 200 Club, on which there is a fair amount of research and information.
Our big matrix BINGO board has 144 spaces.
Students earn a spot on the board by showing positive behavior in three areas: Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. Each teacher/adult in our school has a pad of Cougar Club Tickets and if a student shows one of the positive behaviors we're looking for, the teacher fills it out and hands it to the student.
The student then brings their Cougar Club Ticket to me at my office! On days that I'm not here, I have a mailbox set up at my door for them to put their tickets in. When they bring me their ticket, in exchange they get a little certificate to take home and show off to their family explaining what positive behaviors they showed!
They also then choose a random number out of a bucket. This number corresponds to a number on our BINGO board. Whatever number they pull out of the bucket, that is where their name will go on the BINGO board! So if Johnny earns a ticket in Art class for keeping his workspace clean, he brings the ticket to me in exchange for a certificate to take home and show off. He then closes his eyes and picks the number 126 out of the bucket. I will then write his name on a note card and tape it to the number 126 on the board in the hallway.
Once we fill a row, column, or diagonal, there is a BINGO!!! All the students in that winning row will then sign the Super Star Celebrity Book, pick a small prize, and their name on a paw print which will be added to the wall space around the BINGO board! Then, the board is cleared and we PLAY AGAIN!!
Green Acres
At Green Acres Elementary, we also have a giant BINGO board of 100 spaces. However, we have mixed things up a bit.
Instead of individually earning a ticket and therefore a spot on the board, students have to work together as a whole class during their specials classes. As an entire class, they have to follow all the rules and expectations for each specials class.
For example: a class can earn a spot on the BINGO board from Computers class if they follow all directions, use the computers and equipment appropriately, keep the noise level down, and are responsible with the computers and internet. Expectations will vary depending on the class. Expectations in Library will be very different from those in PE.
Their Specials teachers will then communicate with me if a class showed excellent behavior. If so, then I pull a number at random to correspond with the BINGO board and the class earns that spot. Classes can also earn a spot on the board with hallway behavior. If any teacher/adult (other then their own classroom teacher) sees a class walking in the hallway with excellent manners and behavior, they can submit the name of the class to me as well.
Once a BINGO is reached, each classroom in the winning row/column/diagonal wins a reward. Past rewards include a PJ day, a superhero day, and a hat day.
Now we are trying for a BLACKOUT to get the WHOLE SCHOOL involved!! We're *SO CLOSE*!!
We also have a Stick-It to Kindness wall!! Each grade has a section of butcher paper up on the wall. On their section, a student can write out a moment of kindness that they witnessed and stick it right up on the wall to share with everyone!
